This body positive blogger slammed photoshopping — and here’s why
By now, most of us know that photoshop can have a real impact on body image. Still, though, the practice remains alive and well. So we were really happy to see that Kenzie Brenna, a popular body positive Instagrammer, slammed photoshopping.
Being critical of photoshop is important, especially when you consider the continual rise of fitspiration accounts on Instagram and other platforms. After all, many viewers are literally looking for body goals, and the idea that these idealized bodies aren’t even real means that they’re encouraging people to look a way that doesn’t even exist.

In a recent post, Kenzie explained,
“In 2013 the American Medical Association created a policy that really didn’t go anywhere, stating that the effects of digitally altering images to impressionable youth were so harmful they cause HEALTH PROBLEMS. HEALTH. PROBLEMS. For all you concerned about “health” couldn’t this be something you jump on board for??
”
She continued, writing,
“If magazines had disclaimers on bodies, it would start looking pretty silly flipping through 99% of the pages with a warning on it. I personally think it needs to happen. PARENTS AND SCHOOLS should and need to be teaching their kids that the bodies they see in the media may not look like theirs. Explaining that one is “whole” body and one is a “processed” body.”

She explained,
“And for those of you who HAVENT heard, cellulite is
NOT
an indication of health, wellness or quality of life. It is the appearance of fat cells. It is a cosmetic issue in OUR culture and it happens to be on 90% of women.
YOURE COOL. STAY BEAUTIFUL AND LOVING.
