The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge could be headed to China shortly after they return from their trip to the U.S. in early December. Citing royal sources, The Sunday Telegraph newspaper said the couple could undertake an official tour of China in a bid to strengthen ties between Britain and the Eastern nation. Talks are already taking place about setting a trip for early next year, as the duchess will give birth to her second child in April.

The paper said Beijing and Shanghai would definitely be stops on the tour. It’s been a while since the British royals have undertaken a high-profile, official trip to the country: The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh visited in 1986, and Prince Charles was there in 1997, when Hong Kong became part of China. In June, the Chinese premier Li Keqiang visited Britain in an official capacity and met with the Queen.

With regard to the young royals, The Sunday Times of London reported that American guests are paying up to $100,000 to dine with the duke and duchess at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, a fund-raiser for the couple’s alma mater, St. Andrews University. Guests at the gala dinner on Dec. 9 are set to include Olivier Sarkozy, Mary-Kate Olsen and Ron Pressman.
