Fans made 2656 paper cranes for Leslie

18 Sep – In remembrance of late actor Leslie Cheung's birthday on 12 September, his Japanese fans have decided to perform their annual ritual of sending thousand origami cranes.

As reported on Groove Asia, on 12 September, the fans brought this year's REDDEST theme origami cranes to Cheung's tomb at Bo Fuk Hill, Hong Kong, which amounted to a total of 2656 cranes written with birthday wishes in celebration of Cheung's 56th birthday.

Meanwhile, Leslie Cheung's manager Chan Suk Fun, along with her son Ka Ho, a group of friends and his Hong Kong fans also visited Bo Fuk Hill to celebrate Leslie's birthday, and were surprised to see the cranes.

According to Chan Suk Fun, she did not know what the 2656 cranes stood for, but revealed that they also planned to hold an event at the Hong Kong Coliseum, which will hopefully be broadcast to other locations over satellite.

She stated, "We are planning to organise a large scale gathering next year for the tenth anniversary of Gor Gor's passing, especially for fans that missed him so much."

Known as Gor Gor by his beloved fans, Leslie Cheung left the world in 2003 when he leapt from the 24th floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, leaving a suicide note saying that he had been suffering from depression.
