Gina Rodriguez likes her Golden Globes dress so much, she cried during the fitting earlier this week. Last evening at Mo?t & Chandon’s pre-Globes bash the Jane The Virgin actress dished to Yahoo Style that trying on her Zac Posen number for Sunday felt like putting on a wedding dress. Although Rodriguez, clad in a black off-the-shoulder cocktail dress also by Zac Posen, wouldn’t spill on the exact details, she mentioned that the designer “had something in mind and it was so much like myself.”
“It’s so elegant,” she said of the dress. “So regal. Zac Posen has been so supportive of me. They reached out and I fell in love. I’ve always been in love with Zac and when they were like ‘We want to dress you’ I was like ‘What? Me?’ It’s pretty remarkable.”

The actress, who is nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series - Musical or Comedy (the category she won last year), was Mo?t & Chandon’s special guest for the party, acting as a judge for the champagne brand’s Mo?t Moment Film Festival. Rodriguez helped unveil the winner, Adam Richman, who was selected from dozens of entries, and then surprised her manager with a cake for his birthday. Not that she’s partaking in the sugar or the booze right now, though.
“This new year I decided to do a cleanse for my body and my heart, so I’m not drinking,” she admitted. “I feel amazing. My energy is on a ten. I’m not doing caffeine or liquor. And I’m going to be honest, all I want is a cup of coffee. I feel like I could rip apart a little puppy for a cup of coffee. You’d think I’d want liquor, but it’s coffee I desire!”
Awkward actress Greer Grammer, who acted as Miss Golden Globe at last year’s awards, said she’s looking forward to watching the Globes from the comfort of her own home this year – although she will venture out for the after-parties. “I got to indulge a little bit at some of the after-parties last year,” said the actress, dressed in a black cut-out dress by Bao Tranchi and ASOS shoes. “But I was so tired and my feet hurt so badly that I just wanted to sit down. It’s a really tough job. It’s really draining and it’s a lot of walking. And you can’t drink any water because you can’t go to the bathroom during the show.”

There was one moment that made all the pain worth it. “Oprah telling me I was beautiful was pretty big highlight,” Grammer said. “She came backstage after announcing for Selma and she said, ‘You’re doing such a good job and you look beautiful from all ways.’ I was like, ‘Uh, thank you.’ That was a pretty big deal. If Oprah tells you you’re beautiful then you should take it to heart.”
The party also attracted fashion influencers like Olivia Palermo and Louise Roe, as well as How To Get Away With Murder actor Kendrick Sampson, who hugged and congratulated Rodriguez on her way out. Roe, in a pale blue and white Alex Perry dress, said she feels like the Golden Globes are a standout moment for style, mostly because everyone is having so much fun at them.

“When someone is having a good time it makes their outfit come alive,” the model noted. “Julia Roberts is always my favorite because she’s always having a laugh and doing a bit of a dance and you know she wants to hit the party after. I do genuinely think that makes an outfit look better. And, I have to say, even though she’s not a Globes nominee this year J-Lo is just always unbelievable. Whatever her deal with the devil is she always looks younger and hotter. And up close? Even more unbelievable.”
Palermo mixed high and low fashion for the party, combining a Zara jacket with a Dior skirt and Brian Atwood shoes. The socialite is hoping for more pink gowns on the red carpet of the Globes this year. “The Golden Globes tend to be on the more casual side, I think,” Palermo said. “I like to see different forms – I love a great jumpsuit. I think that’s really chic. I like seeing different patterns and textures from the spring collections. Pinks would be refreshing to see this year.” Maybe Rodriguez’s mystery Zac Posen gown will come in a rosé.
