We Didn't Learn Anything New About Kendall Jenner in Her "GQ" Profile

Kendall Jenner is taking over. On the runway, in ad campaigns, and this month on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar (shot by Karl Lagerfeld no less), and now in a white bikini for GQ. So omnipresent that one is, the men’s magazine has nicknamed the 19-year-old “Keezus” á la Kanye West’s alter-ego Yeezus and that other historical guy I think his name was Jesus.
In a spread shot by photographer Steven Klein, Jenner poses in lingerie, swimwear, and coyly teases readers with near nip slips, but alas her breasts are kept under wraps (this is GQ not Playboy after all). But if you can tear your eyes away from Jenner’s strip tease long enough to actually read the accompanying story, you’ll learn little of what you didn’t already know about her.
We already knew that…
… she “grew up literally live on television.” I mean we watched her do it so duh.
… she didn’t choose this life. She was 10 when the show started so a parent can basically force you to do anything at that age. Fame-hungry Kris Jenner and her clawing elder daughters Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney signed on but, according to Kendall, “me and my little sister were placed in,” Kendall says. “Like, ‘Okay, there’s gonna be a TV show around.’ We didn’t have a say. And how could we have a say? It was in our home. There was no way we couldn’t be on it.”
… she takes her career really seriously and wants you to, too. “I didn’t do it because I felt like I had to prove something,” she said. “This is a career that I’ve always wanted. And I mean, what else would I be doing? I probably would have gone to school to get the degree to go to work, when work was already there.”
…she doesn’t let the reality show cameras follow her on her side-job of being a supermodel. Keeping Up With the Kardashians episodes would be so much more entertaining (for a fashion person, at least) if backstage model drama and Paris fashion shows made the cut. "I told them from the beginning, I was like, 'Okay, love you guys, but we’re not gonna do this. You’re not gonna follow me to shows, you’re not gonna be with me on this ride.’ “
…KUWTK is totally real y’all. "It’s completely me,” she responded when asked if she thinks she’s someone else on camera. “I don’t know how I’d have to play a character.” Even the narratives are just the work of seriously talented editors. “It’s all real, so when there’s a story line, it’s all done after the fact that we’ve filmed, because that’s obviously how it makes sense, because that’s just how it actually happened.“
…she doesn’t like talking about her father. When the writer spotted an Us Weekly on the newsstand with the cover line "Bruce’s Journey: How He Told His Kids,” he asked Jenner how she felt about it. "That’s not about me, so we can move on,“ she said. Then he pointed out that she was wrong because her name was there as well—"Kendall & Kylie finally hear it from him as cameras roll!"—and she responded, "All that is bullshit. …I don’t even know what they’re talking about, so I have no idea.”
…reality shows are totally fake (did she just contradict herself?). “That’s why this life is different,” she said of the line between her public life and private, the fact that she does have to make a distinction even though she claimed not to. “That’s why this life isn’t normal. You know what I mean?”
But we did learn that…
…she’s a neat-freak. “I’m super OCD, so everything is clean,” she said when describing her new condo in Beverly Hills, California, which she paid for all on her own.
…she doesn’t think twice (or, like, at all) before posting photos on Instagram. “I just don’t think of it like that. I don’t at all. Like, I’m just like, 'Cool picture! Post it!’ Done,” is how she describes the feeling of sharing images with her 21 million followers on Instagram.
…Kris Jenner still uses a ringtone and she maybe has a crush on her son-in-law. It’s “Gold Digger” by Kanye West.
