With the first-ever fashion week in New York dedicated solely to menswear wrapping up on Thursday, men’s fashion is hotter — and more important —than ever.
And, always one to have her finger on the pulse of culture, Carine Roitfeld wasn’t about to sit the phenomenon out.
The CR Fashion Book editor — who insists that “clothes don’t make the man, but they help!” — is launching CR Men’s Book, a 112-page supplement to CR Fashion Book, in September with the seventh issue of her women’s glossy.
For the debut issue, Roitfeld looked to some of her favorite male fashion icons to inspire the styling, including River Phoenix, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Christopher Walken, the latter of whom Roitfeld told WWD she’s been “the biggest fan for 30 years.”

One shoot in particular, photographed by Sebastian Faena, features 17-year-old It-male model Lucky Blue in the role of Walken, as well as Oliver Greenall, Logan Flatte, Love Ronnlund, and Will Smith’s son Jaden, 17. “They were very inspiring and had a lot to say,” said Roitfeld, referring to her cast of teens.
Actor Daniel Day-Lewis’s son Gabriel, a model/musician who escorted Julianne Moore during Chanel’s Couture show in Paris earlier this month, also appears in the issue. (Roitfeld, who once likened Kim Kardashian to Marilyn Monroe, told WWD that it was Kanye West who helped her pick out which young musicians to include.)
Future issues of CR Men’s Book will be sold annually for $20, alongside CR Fashion Book.
