Jennifer Lopez Wows at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in Revealing Julien MacDonald
Jennifer Lopez shut it down again. At the 2017 Billboard Latin Music Awards on Thursday night, the singer and actress graced the red carpet in an eye-popping dress that shows more skin than ought to be possible while still making her look elegant and poised.
The black cutout gown is from Julien MacDonald‘s autumn-winter 2017 collection, but it’s safe to say no one else can wear this dress like J.Lo does here. No one else can ever wear this dress, most likely. It’s giving us flashbacks to that green Versace she wore at the 2000 Grammy Awards that cemented her place in red-carpet history. The spiderweb-meets-dominatrix style is also a lot like another risqué MacDonald look that made jaws drop last weekend when Jenna Dewan Tatum wore it at Magic Mike Live.
Lopez was at the Billboard event, held at the University of Miami’s Watsco Center, to perform music from her upcoming Spanish-language album and to receive Telemundo’s Star Achievement Award for her accomplisments beyond her music career.
MacDonald and Lopez previously collaborated to create the feathered, Swarovski-crystal-encrusted robe and minidress for her Las Vegas residency. This is a partnership that is clearly working for both artists. This time, instead of showgirl-chic, she’s sleek and streamlined, complementing the dress with a slicked-back, waist-length ponytail, smoky eye makeup, and Jimmy Choo heels. We just really hope those heels didn’t get caught in her skirt!
Stylist duo Rob and Mariel explained to Billboard why they chose this look for Lopez.
“The sexy cut, plunging neckline, and open back is something that’s become a signature for Jennifer — sexy, feminine, fearless,” they said. “However, the dress being black with its intricate outlines is a bit edgier and has more of a gothic feel than what you’d expect Jennifer Lopez to wear. It feels dark and mysterious, which is pretty opposite from Jen’s vibe. It has a major surprise factor yet is still completely her, which is essentially the goal.”
In the middle of the show, Lopez changed into a different gown that was basically the same exact design just with a little more sparkle. From the same designer, she kept her makeup and hair exactly the same but switched up the accessories.
