Kendall Jenner Really is Being Bullied
Kendall Jenner's made it—she's on major magazine covers, starring in this season's biggest campaigns, and courting favor wherever she goes. But while 2015 has seen the model succeed professionally, rising from bit player on a reality show to supermodel status at just 19 years old, the road to the top hasn’t been as glamorous as you think. Tabloid rumors last year purported that the newbie was bullied by catwalk regulars (one of her peers even wrote a strongly worded letter saying she only got to the top because of her celebrity status), and while Jenner denied the claim, it seems that — shockingly — the talk was actually true.

Vogue Germany posted an unflattering photo of Jenner getting her makeup done backstage before the show. Commenters called out the magazine for capturing her at such a bad angle, but the Queen Bees of NYFW, Lexi Boling and Binx Walton, chimed in and agreed with the haters. Boling wrote, “She’s never looked better,” accompanied by a crying emoji. Walton replied, “That’s f***ed up,” with three of the laughing tear-faced emojis. The whole thread wreaks of sarcasm and high school cattiness. It’s cyberbullying at its slyest. It’s Katy Perry subtweeting Rolling Stone about Taylor Swift being “Regina George in sheep’s clothing.”
This kind of treatment isn’t cigarette butts in her coffee cup levels of mistreatment (one of the various unsubstantiated rumors about Jenner’s backstage tormenting), but it’s the new kind of intimidation that all the mean girls are doing these days. While the comments have since been deleted, the Internet is forever. Why say it to someone’s face when you can post it for the world to see instead?
