Kim Kardashian channels 1990s icons in themed photo shoot

Donning a pink wig, a pink velvet bikini, and a fur wrap, Kim Kardashian appeared in front of cameras with a look we haven’t really seen from her before. In what Kardashian describes on Twitter as a photo shoot around “90’s icons,” she struck a few poses that might indeed jog your memory, including one mirroring Lil’ Kim’s Hard Core-era pose from 20 years ago.

While the outfit Kardashian is wearing is nothing like Lil’ Kim’s bikini poster from 1996 (where is the leopard print?), it does take cues from the rapper’s general fashion sense — from the velvet lingerie to the fur coat to the knee-high leather boots.

Kardashian’s celebration of the ’90s continued with a take on Pamela Anderson’s iconic giant-hat look from the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards. Again, the choices in styling seem more spiritual than specific. Among the missing elements from Anderson’s outfit are the bejeweled pants, button-up bodice, and a lot of fuzz on the fuzzy pink hat.

Nevertheless, the homage to a simpler time was clear enough and seems like a positive place for Kardashian to spend her energy vs. feuding with Taylor Swift on social media.

The photos from the shoot will reportedly be in the September issue of CR Fashion Book.
