Lily Collins, Faith Hill & Rita Ora Think Pixie Cuts Are Freeing

I recently cut my very long hair to shoulder length. The hairdresser even thinned it out, and my head is thanking me for finally shedding a few pounds of hair. I use less products, my neck isn’t as weighed down, and I suddenly understand the appeal of bed head. Getting a short haircut feels like a weight being lifted, and Lily Collins, Rita Ora, Faith Hill, and Scarlett Johansson all agree. The actresses have all recently shaped—and shaved—their locks into short pixies.

“I chopped it! #shortandlovingit…” Collins shared via Instagram when she stepped out for the first time at Vanity Fair’s Oscar after party on Sunday night with the drastic new ‘do. The 25-year-old actress has been sporting an on-trend bob for the past few months, and while Collins has a cutesy persona, this pixie is anything but. The purposeful chop and its messy styling give her an unexpected—and pretty hot—edge.

It’s possible Johansson cut her blonde locks for similar reasons. Pegged as the hot girl (not a bad thing), she’s been gunning for a more serious role in the industry—and a bad*** haircut to match can’t hurt. While the new mom has been sporting a page boy-like style since summer, she debuted the faux hawk post-baby. The definitively less sweet take on the shorn style looks fantastic on her, and having less hair with a newborn is surely a plus.

"It’s so easy and free," Hill told Yahoo Style about her latest trip to the hairdresser. "I feel free." The 47-year-old country star, who was in Los Angeles for the Tom Ford fashion show as well as the Academy Awards where her husband, Tim McGraw performed. Hill has been wearing her hair above the shoulders for the past few months, but like Collins and Johansson, she looks tough (in a good way). Paired with a J. Mendel gown, the masculine cut was actually insanely sexy.

On the other hand, Rita Ora’s wind-swept style looks almost soft with her statement red pout and sultry pose. While her outfits left little to the imagination and her makeup was done to the nines, the short hairstyle toned down the overt sexiness with a touch of boyishness. ” I feel much better with myself,” she told Yahoo Style about the cut. “I feel more free.”

These women’s unencumbered attitudes towards taking the pixie plunge almost have me convinced to take it too. Maybe just one more A-lister expressing how “free” they feel on the record and and then I’ll really consider…
