Here's What Rihanna's Epic Giambattista Valli Dress Looks Like From the Nosebleeds

Last year, Lena Dunham made a splash when she wore a ruffled ombre skirt by Giambattista Valli to the Emmys. The same cupcake-like skirt showed up in Vanity Fair this year, on Rosamund Pike. But the Italian designer just reached a new level of fame thanks to the hot pink gown Rihanna wore to Sunday night’s Grammys. She was there to perform “FourFiveSeconds” with Kanye West and Paul McCartney. In the video, shot by Inez and Vinoodh, she wears Kanye’s over-sized denim jacket. But for the Grammys, she went as girly as possible. The haute couture dress, made of silk and tulle, took up nearly three seats in the audience—and earned comparisons to everything from a princess cake to a loofah to Mother Ginger from The Nutcracker. She told E!’s Ryan Seacrest that she saw the gown online (it’s look 8 from Valli’s couture collection) and knew she had to wear it. It’s already resulted in social media’s favorite image of the night: the view from the nosebleeds.
Where’s Rihanna? is the new Where’s Waldo?
We can only begin to imagine how heavy the gown is, and one of E!’s many cameras caught Rihanna readjusting more than once on the red carpet. While pulling up a sleeveless dress might be a faux-pas, in this case, it’s 100% worth it.
