Solange Knowles Starts the Week With Two New Music Videos
On Friday, Solange Knowles once again broke the Internet with the release of her new album, A Seat at the Table, a project four years in the making. Solange released two music videos on Sunday from her latest effort, for the tracks “Cranes in the Sky” and “Don’t Touch My Hair,” which she and her husband, Alan Ferguson, co-directed.
The past few months, the singer has been teasing images from the videos on her Instagram page, and the videos certainly show that Knowles knows her visuals.
In “Cranes in the Sky,” we see Solange against several backdrops (at the foot of spiraling stairs, in the mountains, atop a house overlooking a valley, to name a few), impeccably dressed in shades of pale pink, purple, white, and beige. Our favorite moment has to be when the singer slathers herself in gold body paint with gold shimmer in her hair — because who doesn’t love to see a golden goddess come to life?
Another look of note? These periwinkle dresses connected with flowing swaths of cloth.
This banana-leaf ensemble is straight from the Garden of Eden — if it was an atelier, of course.
“Don’t Touch My Hair” might as well be renamed “Hair Goals,” because that is just how amazing the styles are. The video opens with Solange rocking bead-laden braids à la R&B singer Patrice Rushen, swinging her adorned locks back and forth, making us want to drop everything and run to the African braiding salon.
They are just as stunning when they’re not in motion:
There were slicked-down finger waves…
… and, of course, Solange’s signature triangle hair.
But possibly the most eye-catching of these looks is this gorgeous African-inspired sculptural hairstyle, which appears to be achieved by the threading technique and literally looks like a crown.
