Among the intimate crowd at Rachel Comey’s fall fashion line soirée were industry legends (fashion critic Cathy Horyn), cooler-than-thou celebs (Tracee Ellis Ross), Brooklyn royalty (Sarah Sophie Flicker), and… Monica Lewinsky.
The 41-year old brunette looked grown up and in control in a quilted leather bomber jacket, and received a warm reception from guests like Waris Ahluwalia and Daily Show creator Lizz Winstead.
"I think that Monica Lewinsky is a brave young woman who went through a lot," said the comedy auteur. "I think she’s coming through on her own. I like that she’s standing up and owning her shit."
Lewinsky herself was super pretty, super polite, and super eager to avoid speaking with the press. “I don’t think I’ll be talking to media tonight,” she said, “But I’m doing a big speech soon, a Ted talk next month.”
The subject? How to stop online bullying, which has been Lewinsky’s platform at recent speaking engagements and also on Twitter.

But though she’s carefully re-emerging in the public sphere, don’t expect the famous ex-intern to become a front row fixture. “This is the only fashion show I’m attending,” she said, before scooting away…and nearly crashing into Beastie Boy Adam Horowitz and his wife, the punk rock goddess Kathleen Hanna. “We don’t know too many fashion people,” shrugged Hanna, “but everyone here seems very cool.”
Among them: actress and fashion kook Parker Posey, who confirmed our suspicions that, yes, Party Girl is making a pop culture comeback. “There’s been a real resurgence of that movie,” she said. “Do you know there’s a London film festival that screens it every year? It’s a Parker Posey Festival, really, and they have a big audience for that film. I’ve started to see a real appreciation for it, and for the ’90s in general now! It was such a spirited movie!…Oh, and it was shot on film!”
Did that really make a difference? “Yes,” she answered solemnly, “Because when something’s shot on film, the director will be like, ‘you have two takes of this scene before the roll [of film] runs out. You can only act this long, and then you’re done.’ And you do it! There’s a pressure and an energy with film to really capture something. The focus of everybody was so tight. Now it’s just like—listen, I sound like I’m talking about old lady stuff.”
No, just cool stuff… which definitely included the clothes. Hey Rachel, can we steal that denim shearling jacket?
