If flames can make you go faster, then an upcoming duo of retro-inspired running sneakers from Nike will have you setting new PRs.

The Nike Vaporfly 3 and Zoom Fly 6 will release this year with flame graphics taking inspiration from the Streak Spectrum. The fiery motif will be familiar to anyone who remembers Supreme’s retro runner collaboration from 2018, but it actually dates back to the shoe’s original run in the aughts. Both modern reunning shoes come with a white upper printed with flames in yellow, orange, red and purple streaking back from the toe cap. Red accents then feature throughout both sneakers, including a gradient at the forefoot of the Vaporfly 3.

While runners are likely acquainted with the Vaporfly 3, which is more tailored to shorter races and slightly cheaper than the Alphafly 3, the Zoom Fly 6 has yet to be release or even formally announced by Nike. The latter series is designed to handle both racing and training, with the Zoom Fly 5 being the first in the series to implement the ZoomX foam. The Zoom Fly 5’s ZoomX is recycled and hosted inside regular EVA foam, as well as being paired with a carbon fiber plate underfoot for propulsion. It also comes in significantly cheaper than Alphas ($285) or Vapors ($260) at $170.

The Zoom Spectrum originally released in 2003 and was designed by Steven Smith, who until quite recently worked for Kanye West and was responsible for the Yeezy Boost 700. Smith made the shoe for Hakone Ekiden, a week-long relay race in Japan, and its flame-adorned colorway was inspired by his own love of hotrods and a suggestion from a marketer in the country.

A release date hasn’t yet been confirmed for the Vaporfly 3 and Zoom Fly 6 with Streak Spectrum flames, but both are expected to release by the end of 2024. This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
