We've already had a few State of Play events to enjoy so far in 2024, but there's likely even more on the way. Sony has yet to reveal the next event, but given we're heading towards some big PS5 releases and potentially new hardware news, we're betting we might hear news as soon as this week (September 3rd).

Since the series of shows began in 2019, Sony has used the State of Play presentations to reveal big-hitting games and details such as The Last of Us 2 release date, debut gameplay footage for Ghost of Tsushima, and more. So, it's always worth tuning in to the State of Play live streams if you want to be alerted to any big announcements for new PS5 games.

The last State of Play aired on May 30, 2024, and was dedicated to showing off a bunch of new announcements. One of these was Astro Bot, revealing that the PS5 mascot is finally getting its own mainline game. Here's what we know about the next State of Play event, and what to expect.

The next State of Play event has yet to be confirmed by Sony. That's the bad news.

The good news, though unconfirmed still, is that a September State of Play - or Showcase - is highly likely given the regularity of them in previous years, and particularly because of the much-talked-about and rumored PS5 Pro that's reportedly on the horizon.

Whether or not a digital presentation is fitting for a new console is another discussion, but our guess is that we'll hear about - and see - a State of Play or Showcase, in the first half of September 2024.

Sony State of Play events have become quite hard to predict over the years. Generally, they focus on PS5 and VR, with third-party announcements making up the bulk of the show. At times, larger games have been announced via these events, but mostly, these are reserved for PlayStation Showcase events. Similarly, major hardware announcements are unlikely to appear at a State of Play, but you might see smaller accessories like new headsets and devices like PlayStation Portal.

The latter is an interesting point of conversation (at time of writing, September 4) as it's been highly rumored that the PS5 Pro may well be revealed or at least announced in a State of Play (or Showcase). This makes the next State of Play presentation one to keenly watch when it's announced.

The last State of Play was on May 30, 2024, and was dedicated to showing off games like Astro Bot.

A lengthy trailer for Concord was also shown, before the announcement of its release date. Monster Hunter Wilds was showcased for the first time as well, with a 2025 release date at the end. An Until Dawn remake is on the way too, as is a brand new Dynasty Warriors title.
