'Justified' Cast and Showrunner Reminisce Ahead of Series Finale at Paley Panel
With just the series finale of Justified to go, we’ll soon find out who gets to leave Harlan alive. And judging from an audience poll at Wednesday night’s “Evening With Justified” panel at the Paley Center for Media, it won’t be Boyd Crowder.
Showrunner Graham Yost joined stars Timothy Olyphant, Joelle Carter, Erica Tazel, and Jacob Pitts to reflect on six seasons of FX’s coolest show. (Walton Goggins is filming Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight and Nick Searcy is currently in Japan.)
Among the fun things you’ll learn in the full replay above: Both Pitts and Tazel went to Yost and said they’d like their characters, Deputy U.S. Marshals Tim Gutterson and Rachel Brooks, to die great Justified deaths in the final season; exactly how Olyphant pitched certain scenes, including the Season 2 one in which Coover Bennett’s beloved pet Charlie got shot; the melody of the (faux) Constable Bob spinoff theme song Olyphant and Patton Oswalt spent a day on set writing (Yost confirmed Bob lives!); how sad Olyphant is that he didn’t know about the car chase scene Yost had wanted to film this season between Raylan and Gutterson and Walker and Choo Choo (EW.com animated it below); who was the most emotional person on set as the series wrapped (cue everyone pointing to Yost, who admitted he sobbed); how a pair of Ava’s underwear almost got a man in trouble with his wife in real life; and how loudly everyone in the room laughs when a panelist (Pitts) needs to excuse himself to use the restroom.
As for the series finale, the most solid tease we got was that we will hear “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” again.
The Justified series finale airs April 14 at 10 p.m. on FX.
