Marvel Fan Favorite Squirrel Girl Finally Headed To TV, Plus News on 'The Defenders' and More
Marvel is finally bringing fan-favorite character Squirrel Girl to TV! Marvel’s New Warriors has been ordered by Freeform, and the network announced that the series WILL be featuring Squirrel Girl, aka Doreen Green, a confident, tough, fan girl who has the powers of a squirrel.
Created in 1992 by Steve Ditko and Will Murray, Squirrel Girl has super strength, speed, agility, and reflexes. Oh, and she can also talk to squirrels, like she does to her sidekick, Monkey Joe. What really sets Squirrel Girl apart from the pack is her delightful quirky personality. She’s basically a fangirl with superpowers. Her favorite hero is Iron Man, and in the past she’s attempted to become his sidekick.
Here’s the thing, though — she’s a fan of the A-list heroes, but in some ways, she’s better at their job. She saved Earth from Galactus, the planet-eating super villain. Her squirrels helped take out Dr. Doom, heck, she even defeated Thanos, the villain allll of Marvel’s entire cinematic universe is teaming up against.
In other Marvel news, the first official viral teaser was released for Netflix’s upcoming Defenders. The clip features Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist in grainy elevator cam footage, and ends with Jones noticing the camera, and smashing it. The camera timestamp freezes on 08:18:20:17, or August 18, 2017, the premiere date set for the series.
The footage also features an IP address, which fans were excited to discover leads to a fake website for the New York Bulletin, the Netflix Marvelverse’s newspaper of choice.
And speaking of Jessica Jones, now that Defenders has been shot, Jessica Jones Season 2 has officially started filming this week in New York. This all comes in a week when Daredevil star Charlie Cox confirmed that he’ll start filming Daredevil Season 3 by the end of the year.
