Mischa Barton Sits Down With Dr. Phil to Talk About Her Hospital Stay and Emotional Blackmail
In late January, actress Mischa Barton was hospitalized at L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after a neighbor called 911 with reports that Barton was behaving erratically. The actress visited The Dr. Phil Show to talk with the host about that incident, in an episode airing April 3.
Doctors later told Barton that she had GHB in her system, which is also known as the date rape drug. After a video of her blackout surfaced online, Barton released a statement, saying, “After an overnight stay, I am home and doing well. … This is a lesson to all young women out there, be aware of your surroundings.”
When Dr. Phil asked the actress about the blackout incident, wondering if she has any idea what she was talking about in the leaked tape, she replied, “I think it was a complete hallucination. I have no idea what I was talking about.”
More bad news hit the actress in mid-March, when she was forced to take legal action to block the sale and release of a sex tape recorded by an ex without her knowledge. Barton also obtained an emergency restraining order against two of her exes over the tape. She told Dr. Phil, “It was obviously complete emotional blackmail,” and, “It is a serious crime to tape people without their knowledge.” The LAPD is currently investigating.
