‘Outlander’ Season 3 Teaser Trailer Reveals Claire’s Sixties Bob, War-Weary Jamie

The Droughtlander is far from over, but the first Outlander Season 3 teaser trailer should whet fans’ whistles with its glimpses of Frank and Claire’s sixties life and looks, Jamie’s post-Culloden lover-less years (which thank god had no lasting effects on his chiseled chest), and Clamie’s gorgeous ginger daughter growing up and graduating.

Premiered ahead of Starz’ new historical drama The White Princess Sunday night, the 40-second clip is the first real look at the next installment the Outlander obsessed have been given outside a few random tweets here and there. Based on Voyager, the third novel in Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling series, the show won’t return until September.

But Caitriona Balfe, the “rare woman” Claire herself, promised it would be worth the wait when Yahoo TV caught up with her on the red carpet at a BAFTA event in January. “I think it will be a very exciting season and once again it will be very different again,” she says. “Every season we do something very new. In the beginning, we will start with Claire and Jamie’s stories slightly separate. We will see what Jamie did and lived in the 20 years that they were separated. You will see Claire, her relationship with Frank, her work life, her relationship with her daughter.”

And she also confirmed that Jamie does indeed make good on his trailer promise to find her. “Then we’ll have this beautiful reunion. And then we completely throw it on its head and we go on ships.” In the book, the sassenach and her great Scot set sail for the Caribbean and anyone who follows the author on social media would have peeped one of said ships in a post from late March when she visited the new set in South Africa. Production moved to Cape Town so they could commandeer the boats used by the Starz pirate series Black Sails.

As can be seen in the trailer though, at least a few of the next 13 episodes keep the star-crossed sweethearts separated by centuries. After Jamie sends a pregnant Claire back through the stones, she tries to make a life for herself with her first husband Frank and eventually her daughter. Jamie has a tough go from the looks of it after the doomed last stand at Culloden and is determined to find his way back to his time-travelling bride who looks beautiful with that bouncy Jackie O. bob.

Outlander will return this fall on Starz.
