‘Riverdale’ Reveals Who Killed Jason Blossom (SPOILERS)

(Spoiler alert: Do not read on if you have not watched Thursday’s episode of “Riverdale,” which reveals the season long mystery of Jason’s murder.)

The murder that kicked off The CW’s “Riverdale” was finally solved tonight, as the comic book adaptation revealed who killed Jason Blossom.

The culprit: Clifford Blossom, Jason’s own father.

But before the real revelation of the murderer, the show had to throw a few more red herrings around. FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich) confessed to the murder to kick off the episode, fallout from last week’s findings of the murder weapon found at his trailer.

This sent shockwaves through the group of Archie (KJ Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse), but mostly because they were pretty convinced he had been framed.

That doesn’t stop the ramifications of FP’s confession from affecting Jughead, who tries to apologize to Cheryl (Madeleine Petsch) and gets slapped for his trouble. The surviving Blossom twin is clearly still struggling to come to terms with her brother’s death.

But things are about to get even more twisted. As it turns out, Betty and Polly’s great-grandfather wasn’t just murdered by a Blossom – he was a Blossom. That’s right, the Coopers are actually Blossoms, which means Polly and Jason were related and were in an unwittingly incestuous relationship, and their unborn baby…

Well, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa did warn us about those “Flowers in the Attic” influences.

Meanwhile, the kids try to figure out why FP would lie about murdering Jason and who he might be trying to protect, while Cheryl confronts her mother with the suspicion that many a viewer has had: Did the Blossoms murder Jason themselves?

Cheryl’s mom insists they didn’t, but, well…

Even as evidence mounted that FP really did pull the trigger – perhaps being paid to do so by Veronica’s dad – Betty remained skeptical and the discovery of a USB in Jason’s old varsity jacket would blow the whole thing wide open.

It didn’t take long for the video to be shown to the audience, as we watched Jason Blossom tied up by the Southside Serpents, before being executed at close-range by Clifford.

The “why” remains the mystery, but as police discovered a dead Clifford who hung himself after Cheryl confronted him about the video, it seems that question may take a while to answer.

The season finale of “Riverdale,” which will deal with the fallout of the murder revelation, will air next Thursday, May 11 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
