‘Star Trek': CBS Unveils First Teaser for New Series (Video)

CBS unveiled the first “Star Trek” teaser at their Upfronts event at Carnegie Hall in New York on Wednesday.

The series is set to premiere on CBS All Access in 2017 and it will launch with a special preview broadcast on the CBS television network.

The premiere episode and all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the U.S. on CBS All Access, the network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service. The new “Star Trek” series marks the first original series developed for CBS All Access.

Bryan Fuller will serve as showrunner and Alex Kurtzman will serve as executive producer. Kurtzman co-wrote and produced the blockbuster 2009 film “Star Trek” with Roberto Orci, and co-wrote 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness” with Orci and Damon Lindelof. Both films were produced and directed by J.J. Abrams.

In addition, late “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry‘s son, Eugene”Rod” Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth, the COO of Roddenberry Entertainment, will serve as executive producers.

Nicholas Meyer, who directed “Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan,” co-wrote “Star Trek IV” and co-wrote and directed “Star Trek VI,” will serve as a writer and consulting producer on the series.

The next chapter in the “Star Trek” franchise will also be distributed concurrently for television and multiple platforms around the world by CBS Studios International.

Also on Wednesday, CBS president Les Moonves announced that a spinoff of “The Good Wife” featuring Christine Baranksi and Cush Jumbo would be the second original series developed for CBS All Access.
